A first-dance sax surprise at Eden Barn: Mollie and Ben’s wedding

Mollie and Ben had kept my evening sax booking a surprise for their guests. Sixty seconds into their first dance to “You to Me Are Everything”, I made a huge saxophone entrance—and the room erupted in cheers. What a way to start their evening party at Eden Barn!
I was working alongside Jamie at LA Events, whose sound and lighting made the barn look and sound incredible. With around 140 guests and so much energy in the room, this was a brilliant evening of live sax alongside DJ.

The sun was setting as I arrived, with guests enjoying a lovely cocktail-hour set outside. It was such a good introduction to the evening: a relaxed outdoor atmosphere before everyone moved into the barn for the party.
Eden Barn is an award-winning wedding venue in Little Musgrave, near Kirkby Stephen in Cumbria’s Upper Eden Valley. It’s a place I’m always delighted to play, with its stone walls, timber beams and fairy lights giving the evening such a beautiful backdrop.
I get enquiries for Eden Barn quite often, but my diary doesn’t always line up, so it was a real pleasure to be there for Mollie and Ben.
A surprise sax entrance during the first dance
The timing made this moment so special. Guests were watching Mollie and Ben’s first dance, with no idea that live sax was about to join in. Coming in after the first 60 seconds gave the song time to settle before the surprise, and the cheering when I appeared was incredible.
From that entrance, the celebration took off. It was exactly the kind of shared moment I love creating with a couple: something personal for them that gets the whole room involved.
A packed dance floor from the first sax set
There was no slow build-up needed at this wedding. As soon as I came on, the dance floor was full, and the guests brought amazing energy to the saxophone sets all night.
That interaction is what I love about evening wedding sax: being right there with everyone as the music takes off, sharing those big moments and feeding off the atmosphere in the room. Mollie and Ben’s party had that feeling from the start.
The dance music sounded fantastic through Jamie’s system. Combined with his lighting and such an enthusiastic crowd, it made the whole evening a joy to perform.
Working alongside Jamie at LA Events
Jamie’s sound and lighting setup really impressed me. In fact, I’ve since agreed to buy his sound system to upgrade my own sax and DJ setup. I’m excited to bring that sound to future weddings.
For Mollie and Ben’s wedding, Jamie supplied the DJ entertainment and I joined him for live evening sax. It was a great example of how well the two can work together for a barn wedding party.
