A surprise sax entrance and Ibiza energy at Low Wood Bay

Debbie and Liam’s wedding at Low Wood Bay was all about bringing people together with big tunes and plenty of energy. With 150 guests celebrating at this Lake District venue between Windermere and Ambleside, I was booked for a surprise entrance — and “Jubel” was the way to make it happen.

I came in playing sax to “Jubel”, with everyone standing and waving their napkins. I got the room clapping along, and it was a brilliant way to bring all the guests into the moment before we moved straight into the cake cut and first dance.

From there, I got to play a powerful 30-minute set packed with saxophone classics. Debbie was bringing top bride energy, and the music matched it: lively, recognisable tunes made for celebrating together.

High-energy Ibiza sax for the evening

There was variety across the sets, but Debbie and Liam especially wanted that high-energy Ibiza sax sound. That gave the evening a clear direction, with the dance tracks and sax classics they loved at the heart of the party.

It’s a format I love: a surprise to get everyone involved, followed by live sax right in the middle of the celebration. And the hog roast deserves a mention too — the food was fantastic.

Playing alongside Luke Matear

This was my second time working with Luke Matear, a really talented Lake District singer and guitarist. His live looping adds so much to his sets, building the music as he performs, and I also got to join in with some of those sets on sax.

Those collaborations were a real highlight. There’s something special about responding to another musician in the moment, and it was great to share parts of the evening with Luke as well as playing my own sax sets.

It was lovely working alongside Sarah at Fell & Fable Photography and Lakeland Media too. A huge thank you to Debbie and Liam for having me as part of their wedding — from the napkins in the air to the Ibiza sax sets, it was a pleasure to be involved.
