BRIAN & AMBER · THE HARRISONS

A sax parade and tepee party at Woodhill Hall

Woodhill Hall · Otterburn, Northumberland

A surprise entrance, napkins in the air and a whole wedding following the sax into the evening party.

Brian and Amber — the Harrisons — brought incredible energy to their wedding at Woodhill Hall. It’s a beautiful setting in Northumberland, and I love playing there. This time, my first job was to turn the end of the wedding breakfast into the beginning of the party.

A surprise entrance with “Freed From Desire”

The guests were just finishing their meal when I came into the room with the sax. “Freed From Desire” was the cue: napkins started waving, everyone was singing along, and suddenly we had a room full of people ready to celebrate.

Then came the sax parade. I led the guests out towards Woodhill’s gorgeous tepee, carrying that energy with us all the way into the evening reception. It made the move between rooms part of the entertainment.

Live sax, DJ and bongos in the tepee

James Alexander DJ was already set up for the evening, and I was playing alongside him and the brilliant Tobi Ripley on bongos. Tobi and I always have such good energy together: live percussion and roaming sax bring another dimension to a DJ set.

As soon as we reached the tepee, I went straight into my first energetic sax set, moving through the dance floor and saying hello to everyone as they danced. Amber was bringing top bride energy, and being right in the middle of that celebration was fantastic.

A bagpipe set with a party twist

At around eight o’clock, Glens Bagpiping brought another surprise to the evening. I’d never seen bagpipes used for evening party music quite like that before. There were some familiar party favourites in his set, and it was really fun to watch.

That mix of personalities and live music made Brian and Amber’s wedding such a pleasure to be part of. From the first singalong to the dancing in the tepee, this was a celebration with its own character.
