CHARLOTTE & JORDAN

A surprise first dance and Ibiza sax at Whistle Barns

Whistle Barns Wedding Venue · Heanor, Derbyshire

Charlotte and Jordan’s evening at Whistle Barns was all about a sound they loved: Ibiza dance music, R&B and pop mashups with house music backings. They booked my evening party package, with three 30-minute live sax sets alongside DJ Lee Morgan.

There was one detail their guests didn’t know about: me. Charlotte was excited to keep the sax a surprise, and we had a first-dance entrance planned to bring everyone onto the floor.

“You’ve Got the Love”: from acoustic first dance to sax surprise

The first dance began with a lovely acoustic version of Florence + the Machine’s “You’ve Got the Love”. Lee then mixed it beautifully into the Calvin Harris remix, changing the atmosphere from an intimate moment for the couple into the start of the party.

That was my cue to come in with the sax and invite everyone onto the dance floor. I love this kind of surprise: the couple get their special moment together, then the music opens it up for their friends and family to join them.

It worked brilliantly. Charlotte and the girls brought amazing energy, and that excitement carried on throughout the night.

This was my first time working with Lee, and it was a real pleasure. His mixing made it easy to build the evening around the Ibiza and urban sound Charlotte wanted, blending recognisable pop and R&B with dance and house backings.

Across the three 30-minute sets, my role was to get right into the party with the guests. Roaming sax makes the music feel close and personal: you can play directly to people, respond to their energy and make them part of the performance.

My first wedding at Whistle Barns in Derbyshire

It was also my first visit to Whistle Barns Wedding Venue in Heanor. It’s a beautiful barn setting, and I particularly loved the room reveal through the sliding doors from the bar. It gave the evening such a lovely sense of anticipation before the dancing began.

Seeing Charlotte on the dance floor with her friends was a highlight. The black-and-white photograph of us captures that interaction so well, and I’m really looking forward to seeing the full gallery from Essie Lou Triffitt Photography.

Thank you, Charlotte and Jordan, for having me as part of your evening. A surprise entrance, music chosen around your taste and guests who were completely up for it made this such a fun first visit to Whistle Barns.
